The Glenwood Community Center, 2400 Route 97, Cooksville, will offer a Kidz Night Out, with crafts, music, dancing, movies and games, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Aug. 17.
Parents will have an opportunity to have dinner and a movie. The event for children ages 5-12 costs $25 a child. Pizza and a beverage will be provided.

Democratic club to meet Tuesday
The Western Howard County Democratic Club will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Howard County Conservancy, 10520 Old Frederick Road (Route 99), Woodstock.
Maryland planner Vaughn Lewis and Carl Balser, chief of Transportation Planning for Howard County, will discuss future plans for the development of the Route 32 corridor.
A social time is to begin at 7 p.m. The presentation is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Cross-country camp -- The Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks is accepting registration for its cross-country camp, to be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 6-10 at River Hill High School in Clarksville. River Hill varsity cross-country coach Earl E. Lauer will lead the camp, which is in its seventh year. The focus will be on video analysis of running technique, training basics, diet and nutrition, care and prevention of injuries and equipment selection. The cost is $130. 410-313-7275.
Sports camps -- The River Hill Boosters is offering summer sports camps to help young athletes improve basic skills. The camps will be held at River Hill High School.
