MIGNON N. LIEBERMAN died of natural causes July 1, 2007 at her home in Phoenix, AZ. Born Mignon Newman in Baltimore, MD, she graduated from Western High School and, what is now known as, Towson University. While attending Towson University, she met her future husband, Sidney Lieberman D.D.S. They married in June of 1938. Together they opened Dr. Lieberman's dental practice on Eutaw Place, which subsequently moved to Park Heights Avenue. Before the birth of her two sons, she taught elementary school for Baltimore City School System. Mignon and Sidney had two sons, Ronnie and Richard Lieberman. Both sons predeceased Dr. and Mrs. Lieberman. Upon the death of her second son, Ronnie, Mrs. Lieberman decided to return to the workplace. After a brief time with the American Cancer Society, she went to work in the Sociology Department of Towson University. She established the Intern Program for students in this department. She retired from Towson University in 1996. Along with her husband, they donated a major portion of their art collection to Towson University in memory of each of their sons. It hangs in its own room which is designated as a quiet place where students can go to study or read. Together, in their generosity, they also endowed the "Mignon Lieberman Sociology Award" and the "Sidney Lieberman Music Competition." At the age of 88, after the death of her husband, she moved to Scottsdale AZ; where they had spent many happy winters enjoying the good weather and each other's companionship. In lieu of flowers, the family requests gifts to be made to the Towson University Foundation, 8000 York Road, Towson, MD 21252. Gifts may be designated to the Mignon Lieberman Sociology Award or the Sidney Lieberman Music Competition. A memorial is being planned for a later date. Survivors include her nephew, Edward P. Newman of Fort Lauderdale FL, a niece, Carol Newman Gluck of Manhattan, NY, and a daughter-in-law, Elyse Lieberman of Scarsdale, NY. Her sons, Richard Lieberman and Ronnie Lieberman, both predeceased her.
