County school board selects new officers
The Baltimore County school board has named new officers for the coming year.
The panel selected board member JoAnn C. Murphy to serve as president and member H. Edward Parker Jr. to be vice president.
Murphy, who joined the board in 2005, is a former county teacher and administrator. During a 30-year career with the system, she supervised programs in community relations, public information and human resources.
As president, Murphy replaces Donald L. Arnold, whose term on the board ended last month.
Parker, a board member since last summer, is a retired principal of Sollers Point Technical High School in Dundalk and former supervisor of vocational-technical education for the school system. He became an educator after working for nearly a dozen years in the manufacturing industry, according to the school system.
The board's most recent vice president, Rodger C. Janssen, was appointed in 2004 and will remain on the panel.

Help sought in finding teen
A teen missing from Baltimore County speaks little English and is new to the area, police said yesterday, as they asked for the public's help in finding the girl.
Guadalupe Argueta, 17, of the 6000 block of Deerbrook Road in the Catonsville area, left home at noon Sunday and had not been seen since, county police said yesterday. Her family received a call from the girl Sunday afternoon, but she did not say where she was or whom she was with, police said. Police say that Guadalupe moved here from El Salvador two months ago, and speaks little or no English. She is unfamiliar with the area and has no friends here, police said. Detectives believe she is in the Baltimore area.
She is described as 5 foot 6 and 120 pounds, with brown eyes and long black hair. Police said her family did not know what she was wearing when she left home. Anyone with information can call county police at 410-307-2020 or Detective Lawrence Thomas at 410-853-3672.
