Dance, exercise studio to open

CoreRageous Dance & Movement, a dance and exercise studio, will open July 28 at Historic Savage Mill in Savage.

The studio, owned by its artistic director, Adrienne (Andi) Rieken, will teach physical movement in a variety of forms to individuals and families, ranging in age from toddlers to seniors.

A former gymnast, dancer, and a certified Power Pilates instructor, Rieken is a graduate of the Women Entrepreneurs of Baltimore program. The nonprofit organization provides entrepreneurial training, technical assistance and follow-up services for small-business start-up and development in the Baltimore area.

The studio's grand opening will be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 28. The event is to include demonstrations, tours, and registration for the fall session, which starts Aug. 27. A six-week, late-summer session of ballet, Pilates and yoga classes runs through Aug. 15. Fees are pro-rated.

Barry to appear at chamber event

The Howard County Chamber of Commerce has announced that humorist Dave Barry will be the featured entertainer at the chamber's annual signature event Oct. 5 at Turf Valley Resort and Conference Center in Ellicott City.

The theme for the event, presented by M&T; Bank and Turf Valley Resort, is "Funny Business."

The event, one of the largest for Howard County's business community, celebrates successful businesses and business people. Awards will be presented to business leaders of the year, entrepreneur of the year, large and small businesses, young professional of the year, volunteer of the year and others.

The evening will include a dinner and pre- and post-dinner receptions. Tickets, are $125 for members; $150 for nonmembers.

Sponsors sought -- Kangaroo Kids, the almost 30-year-old Howard County children's precision jump-rope team, is seeking sponsors to help expand its practice space to accommodate its growth from 60 to 200 participants.
