BOWIE -- Bubba Burger, $11 (pictured). One pound of meat, bacon and cheese in a bun, slathered in barbecue sauce and topped with a deep-fried, cream cheese-stuffed jalapeno popper. "It can be shared by a couple on a date," says Jennifer McGinn, the food service manager.
SALISBURY -- The Sherman Gelati, $3.75. Layers of soft-serve vanilla ice cream and diamond-size chunks of orange or blue raspberry sherbet. "Have the blue," counsels counterwoman Lauren Follebout. "It tastes like a party in your mouth."
FREDERICK -- Half-pound Angus Burger with fries, $7.25. Great flavor - crisp onions, pickles and lettuce - and juicy meat. The fries are crispy; try them with vinegar. A root beer float, $5, is a great change of pace.
BLUEFIELD -- Barbecue sandwich, $4. Decent flavor, inexpensive and a great view from the stands. And Hill Concession founder Roy Hill looks down sternly from a formal portrait behind the counter.
NORFOLK -- Deep-fried Twinkies and Snickers, $3. On first bite, the Snickers, with melting chocolate, warm peanuts and gooey caramel, overwhelmed. But over the long haul, the milder-flavored Twinkie went down easier.
ABERDEEN -- Bo Brooks crab cake sandwich, $8.50, a dozen steamed crabs, $24, and barbecue pork nachos, $5.75. Have a sausage sandwich (various prices) from the Triple Play, a stand to your left as you enter the main gate.
