Slayton House theater camp to offer 'High School Musical'

The Slayton House Conservatory, a musical theater camp designed for those in grades one through eight, will present its production of Disney's High School Musical at 7 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Sunday at Slayton House on Wilde Lake Village Green.

Cate Barry, drama teacher at Glenelg Country School, is director and pianist Aaron Broderick is musical director.

Tickets are $10; $8 for senior citizens and students.

ArtsCentric planning excerpts from 'Aida'

The Bain Center, 5470 Ruth Keeton Way, Columbia, will hold a dinner theater at 4:30 p.m. July 17.

ArtsCentric, a Baltimore-based performing arts company, will present excerpts from the Broadway musical Aida by Elton John and Tim Rice.

A three-course dinner will be served before the play.

The cost is $12. Reservations will be accepted until Wednesday.

Tap-dance class to begin this week

Judy Templeton will offer a high-energy tap-dance class for teenagers and adults from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesdays, beginning this week, at Slayton House.

See 'Snow Dogs' at the library

The central library, 10375 Little Patuxent Parkway, will show the family film, Walt Disney's Snow Dogs, at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Laughter workout -- Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks is sponsoring "Another Way to See It," a laughter club for those ages 55 and older. The program includes laughter exercises. The club meets from 9 a.m. to 9:40 a.m. Mondays at the Bain Center, 5470 Ruth Keeton Way. 410-313-7279.

Play groups -- Town Center Community Association is accepting registration for its summer session of parents and tots play groups, to begin Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Children ages 24 months to 4 years old will meet Tuesdays; ages 6 months to 2 years old will meet Wednesdays; ages 6 months to 4 years old will meet Thursdays. The sessions are held from 10 a.m. to noon and run for eight weeks, ending the week of Aug. 28. Activities include coloring and playing with toys and, together, listening to music and reading. The groups meet at Historic Oakland, 5430 Vantage Point Road. The cost is $20 a child for Columbia residents; $22 for nonresidents. Siblings can enroll for half-price. 410-730-4744.

Choose civility -- Howard County Library and its community partners are sponsoring a long-term initiative, "Choose Civility," to make Howard County a national model of respect, consideration, empathy and tolerance. The project is supported in part by a grant from the Horizon Foundation. As part of the "Choose Civility" initiative, the library will hold discussions of novels that raise moral questions. Billy Budd by Herman Melville will be discussed at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Vantage House, a co-sponsor of the program. Lakefront concert -- Columbia Association will continue its Lakefront Wednesdays concert series from noon to 2 p.m. with a performance by Trio Balanca. The concerts are to be held at the same time each week through Aug.1. 410-715-3104.

Pool party -- The Wilde Lake Community Association will sponsor a family pool party from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. July 19 at Running Brook pool. The event is for Wilde Lake residents only.
