Human resources program recognized
Anne Arundel Community College's professional education training in human resources recently was named as one of the top 20 nationwide by the Society for Human Resource Management.
AACC enrolled 33 students last year in either the 11-week "Professional Human Resource Management" course taught as part of AACC's noncredit Continuing Professional Education offerings or through a contract between AACC's Center for Workforce Solutions and the U.S. Department of Defense.
The course prepares students for two certification exams, the Professional in Human Resources and the Senior Professional in Human Resources.

Company donates to supplies program
Bonnie Carll of Allstate Insurance in Glen Burnie recently helped kick off the 2007 back-to-school program with a $2,500 donation on behalf of the company.
The program, run jointly by the Anne Arundel County Department of Social Services and Anne Arundel County Public Schools, matches donors, like Allstate, with elementary schools to help provide back-to-school supplies to needy students.
The donors purchase backpacks stocked with supplies and deliver the backpacks to the students' schools.
Last year, donors, including hundreds of AACPS employees, provided more than 4,300 backpacks to county elementary school children. Through donations from the community, middle and high school students were also able to get supplies.
