Schools announce staff assignments
The Harford County Board of Education has announced the following promotions and appointments of administrative and supervisory personnel:
Cynthia Hendrick to a 10-month position as assistant principal at North Harford High.
Robyn Rook to a 10-month position as assistant principal at Joppatowne High.
Wanita Fleury to a 12-month position as assistant principal at Harford Technical High.
Joseph Harbert to a 12-month position as assistant principal at Joppatowne High.
Charles Taibi as transportation director for county schools.
Marcia Fithian as assistant principal of Prospect Mill Elementary.
Health careers topic of session
Cecil College is offering a free information session about training options for careers in the allied health fields from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the Community Cultural Center on the North East campus.
The college offers full-time and part-time training programs for medical assistants and receptionists, medical coders/billers, dental assistants, medicine aides, certified nursing assistants and phlebotomists.
Full-time programs can be completed in less than a year.

HCC appoints Ward as new dean
Harford Community College has named Avery W. Ward dean and administrator for the behavioral and social sciences division.
Ward earned a doctorate of jurisprudence from the University of Baltimore, a master's degree from Wayne State University, a bachelor's degree from Towson University and an associate's degree from Harford Community College.
He has 36 years of teaching experience in political science, law, sociology and business law.
Cecil College honors high achievers
Cecil College has announced its spring president's and dean's lists.
Part-time students Jennifer Farrow of Edgewood, Diena Gischel of Forest Hill and Kimberly Thomas of Joppa made the president's list by earning a semester grade point average of 3.75 or better after accumulating 15 or more credit hours.
Part-time students Rahilla Bachu and Stacey Hash of Havre de Grace; Dana Gordon of Abingdon; Tammy Vanarsdale, Justin Gischel and Eva Vittek of Forest Hill; Antonio Finlay of Havre de Grace; Karie Johnson of Bel Air; and Franklin Collins of Aberdeen made the dean's list by earning a semester GPA of 3.5 to 3.74 after accumulating 15 or more credit hours.
Massage therapist wins group's award
Robin B. Anderson, a certified massage therapist, has received the 2007 bronze award in the Massage Therapy Foundation's Student Case Report Contest.
She received her associate of applied science degree summa cum laude in massage therapy from the Community College of Baltimore County in December 2006.
Schools offer Patriot Program
Prospect Mill and William S. James elementary schools have a Patriot Program that includes a partnership between the PTAs, school administrators, teachers and Freedom Federal Credit Union.
The program's mission is to give students an opportunity to gain a sense of patriotism and develop an awareness and appreciation of our country's past, present, and future.
Students are required to learn the Pledge of Allegiance; the 23 Maryland counties; state capital; the identification of national, state and county officials; as well as identification of seven of the 10 national monuments or symbols, among other things.
Prospect Mill held an awards ceremony and pizza party for 72 fourth-graders who completed the program.
At William S. James Elementary, 177 students from all five grades received their Patriot award at an assembly.
