Zimmer's airport vote a bold move

I'd like to extend my thanks and support to Commissioner Mike Zimmer for his vote against the Carroll County Regional Airport expansion on June 12.

His vote to stop taxpayer-funded welfare for a project that benefits an extremely small group, while negatively impacting a significantly larger majority, truly represents the will of the majority of the people. I will not forget this example of his efforts to stop tax and spend policies for special interest groups in our county.

As I watched the videotape showing the June 12 deliberations, the stark contrast between Commissioner Zimmer's presentation and delivery versus Commissioner Dean Minnich's was like night and day in my opinion.

Commissioner Zimmer calmly delivered his well-founded arguments against the expansion while speaking from both his heart and mind. Commissioner Minnich, on the other hand, struggled to find his voice while attempting to defend his position.

I'm still hopeful that during the environmental study phase we may even see environmental groups such as the Sierra Club become more vocal and involved on this issue, and thus help Commissioner Minnich find his voice against this waste of taxpayer money.
