Jane Carr Montanarelli, a retired Baltimore County magazine editor, died of brain cancer Thursday at Gilchrist Center for Hospice Care. The longtime Kingsville resident was 74.
Born Jane Warrington Carr in Annapolis and raised in Edgewater, she was a 1951 graduate of Annapolis High School. She attended Washington College and the Sorbonne. A member of the Chi Omega sorority, she earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Miami at Coral Gables, Fla.
She worked at the Baltimore headquarters of the 1960 John F. Kennedy presidential campaign and worked as a speechwriter for former Gov. J. Millard Tawes in Annapolis. There she met her future husband, Stephen Montanarelli, who went on to become state prosecutor.
After moving to Kingsville, she was editor of Baltimore's Where Magazine and was a writer, editor and photographer for two Baltimore County government publications, Focus and Senior Digest. She retired last year after 24 years.
Ms. Montanarelli enjoyed gardening, reading and travel.
Graveside services will take place at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens, 200 E. Padonia Road.
Survivors include a daughter, Dr. Lisa Montanarelli of New York City; two brothers, Benjamin Warrington Carr of Annapolis and William Warrington Carr of Edgewater; a sister, Anne Carr Smith of Annapolis; and 13 nieces and nephews. Her husband of nearly 40 years died in 2004.
