Doretta Loats was born and raised in the city's Woodberry neighborhood. She graduated from Western High School in 1946 and attended the Johns Hopkins University.

Mrs. Spurrier was a member of Arlington Baptist Church, 3030 N. Rolling Road, where services will be held at 11 a.m. today.
