Trove in emptier Cove

The Baltimore Sun

The Home Run Derby competitors won't have to worry so much (not that they would) about hitting boaters in the celebrated McCovey Cove area just beyond right field at AT&T; Park, as officials are banning all motorized boats, and all nonmotorized boats longer than 20 feet, starting Saturday through the All-Star Game on Tuesday.

In the funniest All-Star development, Shana Daum, a Giants spokeswoman, said all media, save (natch) for Fox and ESPN, which have television rights, will be barred from taking their own boats out to the cove, but can pay $200 to board a charter to cover events.

Good luck getting that entry through on the old expense account report.

How messy would it have been to have had both Barry Bonds and Sammy Sosa at AT&T; Park?

Oh, and there's no truth to the rumor that Cynthia Rodriguez is the commissioner of finger baseball.

If you're a big NBA hoops fan and you have one of those fancy new iPhones, or even a mere iPod or MP3 player, you could hardly go wrong by checking out The Basketball Jones (http:--thebasketballjones.net/) and downloading their podcasts, which run daily during the regular season and less frequently in the offseason. Manned by a pair of occasionally profane Canadians, Basketball Jones is an almost-always entertaining listen.
