Work to begin tomorrow on I-95 north of the city line

The Maryland Transportation Authority plans overnight lane and ramp closures on Interstate 95 north of the Baltimore city line starting tomorrow night and continuing into Tuesday morning.

The work is part of the authority's project adding express toll lanes to I-95.

The closings in the stretch between the Interstate 895 split and the northeastern segment of the Beltway will begin about 8 p.m. tomorrow with flagging operations on the Kenwood Avenue Bridge, which carries traffic on Route 588 over I-95, to direct motorists into one lane. Crews will be installing steel girders at the bridge.

At 9 p.m., two lanes of southbound I-95 will be closed. The authority warned that after midnight Monday, it will conduct "traffic drags" -- in which police cars are used to reduce traffic speeds -- at least twice.

On Monday night, the authority will again begin closing lanes on the bridge at 8 p.m. At 11 p.m., workers will begin closing the two right lanes of northbound I-95. Police will again be conducting traffic drags that night.

On Monday and Tuesday mornings, all lanes are expected to reopen by 5 a.m. The schedule is subject to change based on weather conditions.
