Activity book for kids focuses on farming, The Howard County Economic Development Authority's Agricultural Marketing Program has released a children's activity book, Howard County Farms & Agriculture - We're Still Growing, to teach children ages 4 to 8 about the important role of agriculture and farming in Howard County.

Farms and activities included in the book are local. Many of the farms mentioned in the book welcome visitors; a listing of such farms is posted at the authority's Web site,

About 5,000 copies of the book are to be distributed at the county's four farmers' markets, the Howard County Fair, and local museums, farms and tourist destinations. Teachers, Scout leaders, camps and home school coordinators are encouraged to call to reserve copies for their students.

Campaign links meal store, film

Super Suppers, a meal-assembly store in Ellicott City, is participating in the company's national promotional campaign with Disney/Pixar.

The store will give away a Ratatouille-inspired entree of chicken and bow-tie pasta to each family holding a movie stub from the Disney movie about a rat who wants to be a chef.

The store, which opened in October, is owned by Brenda Bloom. Super Suppers is part of the Culinary School of Fort Worth, and many of the school's franchisees are participating in the Disney promotion.

"It's great because the message in the movie is all about anyone can cook - whether you're a rat or a 7-year-old child in our Kids in the Kitchen [program] or an adult," Bloom said.

The promotion includes the Kids in the Kitchen program, featuring recipes inspired by the movie; participating children can make three servings of linguine with cheese sauce, ratatouille (the French Provencal vegetable dish) and garlic cheese bread to take home. Kids in the Kitchen is open to children ages 7 and older.

The promotion is to be in effect July 9-31.
