Sister Mary Germana Strassberger, a retired Mercy High School librarian, died of coronary artery disease Wednesday at her order's retirement home in Pinehurst in Baltimore County. She was 96.

Born Helen Adelia Strassberger in Baltimore, she attended the old St. John's Academy and was a 1929 Seton High School graduate. She entered the Sisters of Mercy in 1931 and took the name Mary Germana. She received her bachelor's degree in education at the old Mount St. Agnes College and a master's degree in library science at Villanova University in 1971.

She was librarian at Mercy High School in Baltimore from 1965 to 1992. She had previously taught at Shrine of the Sacred Heart School in Mount Washington, St. Gregory the Great in West Baltimore and St. Peter the Apostle in Southwest Baltimore. She had earlier held positions in Virginia and Washington.

Sister Mary Germana was a member of the Baltimore Archdiocesan Library Association.

A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 11 a.m. today at The Villa, 6806 Bellona Ave.

Survivors include a brother, Arunah Abell Strassberger of Washington; and eight nieces and nephews.
