Glenelg High School joins forces with Eyre

Glenelg High School has established a new partnership with Eyre Bus, Tour & Travel to enable students to learn about running a tour and travel business, including skills such as scheduling, finance, marketing and communications.

As part of the partnership, Eyre will offer internships at the company, and its employees will participate in career days and mock interviews. Eyre has also agreed to sponsor events at the school.

The 60-year-old Eyre company, in Glenelg, offers charter bus, tour and travel agency services.

Flea market set at Glenwood center

The Glenwood Community Center will hold an outdoor flea market from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday. Admission is free to shoppers; space for sellers costs $20, plus $5 for the use of a 6-foot-long table.

The center will show a G-rated family movie, The Absent-Minded Professor, from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. July 6 in the grassy area behind the building. Younger members of the audience are welcome to wear pajamas, take a sleeping bag, pillow and blanket or a low chair. Light refreshments will be available for purchase.

The cost is $5 for those ages 18 and older; $3 for all others. Everyone is welcome and registration is not required.

Marriotts Ridge opens registration

Marriotts Ridge High School will accept registration for students planning to enroll for the 2007-2008 school year.

Appointments are available between 8:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. July 10, 24, 26 and Aug. 2, 14 and 16.

Mobilized -- Army Pvt. Thomas R. Reidy, son of Mark J. Reidy of Marriottsville, has been mobilized and activated for a future deployment to an undisclosed overseas location in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. The infantryman, who is normally assigned in Frederick, is a 2006 graduate of Liberty High School, Sykesville.

Mobilized -- Army National Guard Sgt. Steven D. Fyfe, son of Scott D. Fyfe of Clarksville and Barbara J. Fyfe of Ashton, has been mobilized and activated for a future deployment to an undisclosed overseas location in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He is a 2001 graduate of Sherwood High School, Sandy Spring.

Cross-country camp -- The Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks is accepting registration for its Cross Country Camp, to be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 6-10 at River Hill High School in Clarksville. River Hill varsity cross-country coach Earl E. Lauer will lead the camp, which is in its seventh year. The focus will be on video analysis of running technique, training basics, diet and nutrition, care and prevention of injuries and equipment selection. The cost is $130. 410-313-7275.

Help sought -- Humane Society of Washington County asks residents of Washington, Frederick and Howard counties to help with a rehabilitation effort for more than 70 horses impounded by the society last year because of neglect. Alfalfa is needed for horses that are being rehabilitated at Days End Farm Horse Rescue in Lisbon. 301-733- 2060, Ext. 237.

Musicians sought -- Glenwood Community Center is developing a list of those who would like to play a variety of music with other musicians. Sports camps -- The River Hill Boosters will sponsor summer sports camps to help young athletes improve basic skills. The camps will be held at River Hill High School. La Leche -- La Leche League of Western Howard County, a chapter of the international organization, meets from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. the fourth Wednesday of each month at Linden-Linthicum United Methodist Church, 12101 Linden-Linthicum Lane, Clarksville.
