If going blond has crossed your mind or a new haircut makes you nervous, the new Fabulous Salon and Spa in Pigtown can give you the look -- with no bleach and no scissors.

A computer program photographs clients, then experiments with 1,500 variations in hairstyles added to their image on a flat-screen television.

"At least then they can see what it will look like before they actually do it," says owner Fabiola Fernandez. After 13 years in Washington, D.C., rising rents pushed Fabulous Salon and Spa to relocate to Baltimore. The cozy setting is a break from crowded metropolitan salons.

Stylists perform haircuts, coloring and thermal straightening. The spa includes a manicure and pedicure room, where clients can relax in a massage chair. The basic manicure starts at $15, but can be upgraded to include hot oil or paraffin treatments. Summer pedicures begin at $35. The facial room is a sunlit sanctuary with calming music. Facials range in price from $70 to $120 and last about an hour.

Private spa services also include full-body massages priced between $80 to $100. With swimsuit season in swing, try the slimming system, which uses cream and plastic wrap in treatments that are supposed to shed weight from the abdominal area in four $300 sessions.

Between beauty treatments, clients can sit on the back patio and enjoy lunch or a cup of tea. Tiny but professional, Fabulous Salon and Spa is a sweet escape.
