Walter V. Harrison Jr., a retired silversmith, died Monday of complications from a stroke at Stella Maris Hospice. The Cedarcroft resident was 85.
Born in Baltimore and raised on Abell Avenue, he was a 1939 City College graduate and served in the Army during World War II.
He owned and operated a flower shop on Charles Street near Pennsylvania Station before joining Samuel Kirk & Sons as a silver repairer at its 25th Street plant. He later worked at the Kirk department at the old Stewart's department store at Howard and Lexington streets, and he retired as a cook at St. Vincent's Child Care Center in Timonium in 1991.
He enjoyed gardening and working with Boy Scout Troop 133 in Govans.
A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Church, 1008 W. 37th St., where he was a member.
Survivors include a son, Walter V. Harrison III of Baltimore; two daughters, Mary Louise Cofiell of Glen Burnie and Julie Marie Keating of Rodgers Forge; three grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. His wife of 46 years, the former Eleanor Hart, died in 2004.
