Spirits rise as three Orioles go deep

The Baltimore Sun

If slumps are routinely described as being contagious, capable of infecting an entire lineup like a virus, the same theory can apply to hitting. One guy gets hot, then another one. One guy finds his home run swing, and others are sure to follow.

Miguel Tejada got the ball rolling yesterday - or rattling in the seats - with a two-run homer that gave the Orioles an early lead. And soon enough, two other players also went deep against Oakland Athletics starter Joe Blanton, providing a rare exhibition of power for a team that began the day last in the American League in home runs.

Melvin Mora and Nick Markakis also flexed some muscle for the Orioles, who were the aggressors throughout the afternoon - at the plate and on the base paths - in an 8-4 victory over the Athletics before an announced crowd of 30,140 at Camden Yards.
