EMMA LOUISE BLACKSTON, a retired domestic worker, died of natural causes on May 23, 2007 at the Joseph Richey Hospice Center in Baltimore, Maryland. The Elkridge native was 90 years old. She was a lifetime member of Gaines A.M.E. Church where she served in many capacities, including Trustee, Sunday School Superintendent, Missionary and Usher Board. It was evident that Ushering was her love as she remained president of the Usher Board for over 45 years. She was also known for her creative expression through reciting poetry that she learned as a child. She would recite her poetry at several churches throughout the Howard County community. Some of her favorites were: "The Master is Coming", "The Leak in the Dike", "Somebody's Mother" and "Saving Girls from Broken Hearts". She is survived by a son William Fields, Sr., 3 daughters Shirley Blackston, Delores Randall, Mary Hebron, 13 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, 1 son-in-law, 6 grandson-in-laws, 3 granddaughter-in-laws, 7 sister-in-laws, numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Wake Service will be held Tuesday, May 29, 2007 5 to 8 P.M. at Gaines A.M.E. Church, 7134 Montgomery Rd., Elkridge, MD 21075. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at 10:30 A.M. at Unity Baptist Church, 7204 Montgomery Rd., Elkridge, MD 21075.
