The lowdown // Hear the Soulful Symphony as it performs the world premiere of conductor/composer Darin Atwaters hip-hop symphony, Paint Factory. The show, also featuring dance company Soul Movement and Baltimore-based rappers M.E.P., aims to challenge common perceptions of hip-hop while presenting a heartening message of unity, hope and respect.

'Forever Plaid'

The lowdown // Totem Pole Playhouse, the summer theater in Pennsylvania's Caledonia State Park, launches its 57th season Tuesday with a revival of one of its most popular hits, Forever Plaid. A salute to the close-harmony guy groups of the 1950s and 60s, the show features such chestnuts as Heart and Soul, Three Coins in a Fountain and Chain Gang. The cast includes Chad Coudriet, Meyer deLeeuw, David Perlam and Darren Server, repeating the roles they played in the theaters August 2006 production of Plaid. Heres the rest of the Totem Pole season: Always... Patsy Cline (June 2-17), Social Security (June 19-July 1), Write Me a Murder (July 3-15), Proposals (June 17-29), Driving Miss Daisy (July 31-Aug. 12) and Smoke on the Mountain Homecoming (Aug. 14-26).
