Mike Kelen, St. Paul's, golf

The senior emerged as the titlist from 125 competitors in last week's three-day Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association individual golf championships.

Kelen began his quest on May 7, posting a first-round 74 on the 18-hole course at Hayfields Country Club. Last Wednesday, Kelen shot a 71. And on Friday, Kelen shot a final-round 78, beating Gilman's Brad Miller by four shots to capture the crown.

Kelen is bound for Bates College in Maine, where he will continue his golf career.

Allyson Carey

The junior midfielder scored the biggest of her 51 goals this season in overtime of Sunday's Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland A Conference championship game against Severn, leading the No. 3 Patriots to a 10-9 win.

It capped a fine week for Carey, who contributed nine goals and four assists in three playoff wins. A two-time team captain and last year's Harford County Player of the Year, Carey opened last week with a four-goal effort in a 10-7 quarterfinal win over St. Paul's. In Thursday's 9-8 overtime win against St. Mary's in the semifinals, she had three goals and one assist before getting two goals and three assists in the title game.

Also a constant in the middle of the field, she has won 50 draws and collected 57 ground balls.
