On a night with some interesting twists, the NCAA invited six schools from Maryland to its 16-team Division I men's lacrosse tournament for the first time in the 37-year history of the event.

It treated Johns Hopkins with a little extra kindness for its late-season surge, made Towson one of the last entries by the slimmest of margins, brought Loyola on board for the first time in six years, and dropped Cornell, the nation's only unbeaten team, to an unexpected seeding position.
