The trio Milkshake will perform at The Other Barn, 5851 Robert Oliver Place in the Oakland Mills Village Center, at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday. The trio specializes in high-energy rock music for children.
Tickets are $10 for children ages 1 and older, and adults.
Workshop to teach baby-sitting skills
The Columbia Teen Center, 5853 Robert Oliver Place, will offer its one-day "Babysitting Made Easy" workshop from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 19, June 30 and July 21.
The program for ages 11-14 includes first aid, emergency procedures, safety precautions and other babysitting skills. A certificate is awarded.
The cost is $48 for Columbia residents; $58 for nonresidents. There is a nonrefundable registration fee of $10.
A "School's Closed" trip to the International Spy Museum for ages 11-14 is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 18.
The museum includes visual programs and interactive displays describing spy missions and a "School for Spies."
The cost is $45 for Columbia residents; $54 for nonresidents. Before- and after-care is available.
Learn to make greeting cards
The Oakland Mills Community Association will sponsor "Stamping with Gina," a workshop using stamping techniques to create professional-looking handmade greeting cards, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. May 15 at The Other Barn, 5851 Robert Oliver Place.
The cost is $10 plus a $5 materials fee. Registration is required.
Football camp -- Howard County Football Technique Camp for children and youth in grades three to nine will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 9-13 at Hammond High School in Columbia. The camp, which is staffed by Howard County high school coaches, offers offensive and defensive position techniques, and instruction in the kicking game. Certified coaches will teach speed training. Each day's camp concludes with non-contact, competitive football games under coaches' supervision. Tuition is $160. A $10 discount is offered to members of youth football leagues. 301-776-8962.
Honoring volunteers -- Three Oakland Mills residents will be honored by the Oakland Mills board of directors and community as 2007 Oakland Mills Volunteers of the Year. James Alvey, Charles Bailey and Marcia White are being recognized for their contributions to the village and its revitalization initiatives. Living right -- Long Reach Community Association will offer "Stepping Out," a six-week session of classes in etiquette, social skills and self-improvement for boys and girls ages 8 to 13. The program is designed to encourage self-confidence, positive communication, attitudes and behavior, and appropriate manners. Classes, which begin May 14, meet from 10 a.m. to noon Saturdays, at Stonehouse in Long Reach Village Center.
