Year of the Dog
Rating -- PG-13
What it's about -- Woman goes into an emotional tailspin after her dog dies.
The Kid Attractor Factor -- Quirky subject handled in the Nacho Libre-School of Rock style.
Good lessons/bad lessons -- Don't be flip when a friend's dog dies. Pets can be our closest companions.
Violence -- Not really, though a dog dies.
Language -- Pretty clean.
Sex -- "Suggestive references."
Drugs -- None.
Parents advisory -- There's nothing here to really offend, but younger kids and pet-lovers may find this a serious bummer of a comedy.
The Condemned
Rating -- R
What it's about -- Convicts are dumped on an island where they fight to survive for a paying Internet audience expecting mayhem and murder.
The Kid Attractor Factor -- Stone Cold Steve Austin and Internet violence.
Good lessons/bad lessons -- This is where the culture is headed, if we're not careful - pay-per-view snuff films on the Internet.
Violence -- Lots.
Language -- Pretty profane.
Sex -- An implied rape.
Drugs -- A mixed drink is served.
Parents advisory -- Not remotely the roughest R to come along recently, but with impalings, shootings, body blows and bodies blown apart it's worth keeping from the 15 year-olds-and-younger.
