If you're up for some department-store rummaging, Filene's Basement is the latest addition to Baltimore's Inner Harbor.

Stacks of pastel polo shirts sit neatly folded, racks of floral dresses hang in orderly rows and spring colors pop from every corner of the newly opened store, which welcomed downtown shoppers at the end of March.

The occasional tease of a sunny day has bargain hunters on the prowl for warm-weather attire. "The opening has been outstanding," said Vic Shepherd, the store's general manager. "People have been flowing through the doors."

Shoppers come to find a deal on designer clothes at reasonable prices, which is what Filene's is known best for. From career suits to swimsuits, the store is filled with high fashion for low cost.

This location (Filene's also has stores in Towson and Hunt Valley) is situated on one level and divided into several sections, including a men's department loaded with ties in every pattern. The women's department has a corner for petites and a juniors area offering favorites like Seven jeans at half-price.

But clothing isn't all you can find in the Basement. Fragrances, jewelry, gourmet foods and, of course, accessories such as shoes and handbags are all here.

Looking for their latest wardrobe asset, ladies tore through racks of leather purses and woven beach bags -- rummaging at its high-end best.
