As reported April 15, 1990, in the Howard County Sun:

The Rouse Co. has joined the chorus of groups urging the State Highway Administration not to convert the Interstate 95 rest areas near Gorman Road into a full-service truck stop.

The company owns all of the 100 acres needed for the proposed truck stop. The land value is estimated at between $45,000 and $65,000 an acre, according to the SHA.

"We would not be overjoyed to sell our property to the state for that use," said Alton Scavo, a Rouse Co. vice president.

The idea of converting the tourist center-rest areas into a truck stop is being weighed by the SHA as an alternative for truckers who now crowd the interstate's shoulders at night.
