A North Carolina man who used stolen identities to file false state income tax returns in a dozen states including Maryland pleaded guilty yesterday in U.S. District Court in Baltimore.
Chika Milford Mokwunye, 43, of Greensboro entered a guilty plea to mail fraud in connection with a scheme to receive fraudulently obtained tax refunds of more than $728,000.
Mokwunye faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison, followed by three years of supervised release and a $250,000 fine when he is sentenced by Judge William D. Quarles Jr. at a hearing scheduled for Sept. 6.
