With just over a minute remaining, Dana Dobbie scored the game-winning goal as the No. 2 Maryland women defeated host Penn State yesterday, 10-9, in the final game of the Atlantic Coast Conference/American Lacrosse Conference Challenge.
Goalie Allie Buote and the Maryland defense held No. 11 Penn State (8-4) scoreless for the first 17:01 of the second half.
Dobbie led the Terrapins (12-1) with two goals and an assist, while Caitlyn McFadden had a goal and two assists. Katie Doolittle added a goal and two assists, one on Dobbie's game-winner. Krista Pellizzi scored twice, and Buote made 12 saves.
No. 17 Vanderbilt 11, No. 13 Johns Hopkins 10 -- The visiting Blue Jays (6-5, 1-1 ALC) rallied with five goals in the second half to force overtime, but Kendall Thrift's goal with 48 seconds remaining in the third overtime lifted the Commodores (8-4, 2-1) to their first win over the Blue Jays since 2002.
Towson 19, George Mason 13 -- Attacker Meggie McNamara scored a career-high-tying six goals, including five in the second half, as the visiting Tigers (4-6, 1-2 Colonial Athletic Association) overcame a two-goal halftime deficit to end a three-game losing streak with a victory over the Patriots (5-5, 0-2). McNamara, who has scored the game-winning goal in all of the Tigers' victories this season, got three of her goals during a 6-0 run, which gave Towson a 16-11 lead.
