Marriage skills program offered

Couples of any age interested in strengthening their relationships, marriages or families are invited to attend Cecil Community College's free Marriage Skills Training Program.

The 45-hour program is offered in 15 three-hour sessions held weekly at CCC's Elkton Station, 107 Railroad Ave. It is designed to improve communication, interpersonal skills, family planning and life management skills.

Child care is provided to couples with children, and sessions include joint parent and child time.

The first session began yesterday. Late registrations are being accepted, with opportunities to make up missed classes. Additional programs will begin June 19 and in early July.

Information session on health careers

Cecil Community College is offering a free information session on training options for careers in the allied health field from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday in Room 327 of Elkton Station.

The college offers full-time and part-time training programs for medical assistants and receptionists, medical coders/billers, dental assistants, medicine aides, certified nursing assistants and phlebotomists.

ESOL classes start April 9

Cecil Community College will offer basic English for Speakers of Other Languages classes beginning April 9 at Elkton Station.

ESOL classes focus on improving the speaking, reading and writing skills of students who are learning English as a second language.

Classes will meet from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays April 9 to June 13, or 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays April 10 to June 28.

Head Start invites 2007-2008 applicants

Head Start is accepting applications in Harford County for the 2007-2008 school year.

The preschool program has centers in Havre de Grace, Aberdeen and Edgewood, all designed to meet the needs of low-income or special-needs children and their families.

Children must be at least 3 years old by Sept. 1 to be eligible for the program.

College offering boating course

Cecil Community College will offer a Maryland Basic Boating Course, suitable for ages 10 and older.

The three-day class will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. April 17-19, April 24-26, May 1-3, May 8-10, May 15-17, May 22-24, May 29-31, June 5-7, June 12-14, June 19-21 and June 26-28.

Tuition is $40, and the course fee is $15.

The course is approved by the Department of Natural Resources and provides certification to those who complete it.

Anyone born after July 1, 1972, is required to have certification before operating numbered and documented vessels in Maryland waters.
