The Ellicott City Restoration Foundation Inc. is holding its third amateur photography contest for pictures in the categories of "vintage," "adult" and "junior," taken in the Ellicott City Historic District.
"Vintage" photos must have been taken before 1972. The "adult" categories is for photographers ages 18 and older; the "junior" category is for those ages 17 and younger.
Winners will be announced June 2 at the Thomas Isaac Log Cabin.
Entries can be delivered to the Howard County Tourism Council office, 8267 Main St., Ellicott City by 5 p.m. May 18. The office, at the side entrance of the U.S. Post Office building, is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
Submissions become the property of the foundation. The photographs will be on display in Ellicott City merchants' windows during June.
Nursery school spring fair planned
The Mount Hebron Nursery School Parents Group will hold its 23rd Annual Spring Fair from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 28, rain or shine, at Mount Hebron Presbyterian Church.
The church is on Mount Hebron Drive, Ellicott City.
Children's activities will include a petting farm, Moon Bounce, face-painting, crafts, games with prizes, a mystery balloon containing prizes and a Mother's Day Secret Shop.
Entertainment is to include performances by Dance Foundations, Kangaroo Kids precision jump-rope team, U.S. Tae Kwon Do and the Teelin School of Irish Dance. Plants, baked goods and books will be for sale.
Admission and parking are free.
Tickets for games and activities can be purchased at the fair.
WWII vet and author to speak April 18
The Miller branch library, 9421 Frederick Road, Ellicott City, will sponsor "Meet the Maryland Author: Rudy DePaola" at 2 p.m. April 18.
A veteran of World War II, DePaola draws on his adventures as a tail gunner in the South Pacific in his first novel, Wings of the Bullet: A Story of Young Americans at War.

Bunny's breakfast -- Elkridge Volunteer Fire Department will hold an all-you-can-eat breakfast with the Easter Bunny from 7:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. today at the firehouse, 6275 Old Washington Road, Elkridge.
