Synchronized errors

Each time shortstop Miguel Tejada made an error yesterday in the Orioles' 4-2 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers, so did catcher Ramon Hernandez. Almost immediately. Tejada misplayed two balls, in the first and second innings, and Hernandez followed with errant throws. His failed pickoff attempt at third base allowed Juan Pierre to score, and he threw another ball into center field as Matt Kemp stole second. "We were awfully sloppy today," manager Sam Perlozzo said. "I know it's late and guys are kind of anxious. They've had a tough schedule. So we'll write it off to the schedule and see if we can get them on track tomorrow."

Farther north

In the split-squad game in Port St. Lucie, which the Orioles won, 2-1, over the New York Mets, Aubrey Huff was ejected in the third inning after being called out on strikes. He flipped the bat over his shoulder and was tossed. Jon Knott hit a home run, his second this spring, and Hayden Penn allowed one hit and walked four in four innings.

On deck

The Orioles return to the road today, facing the St. Louis Cardinals in Jupiter. Jaret Wright will oppose Anthony Reyes. The Orioles also will bring along Chad Bradford, Jamie Walker, John Parrish and Todd Williams.
