Rezoning not urged for Cape St. John

The Baltimore Sun

Your article about an Anne Arundel County bill to limit growth incorrectly stated that the Cape St. John community had been recommended for downzoning. (Annapolis Neck growth focus of bill, March 14, 2007).

The Cape St. John community, which includes more than 200 homes, was established more than 50 years ago. I was president of the community association when the Annapolis Neck Small Area Plan was finalized in 2003. It never called for downzoning Cape St. John. The plan called for downzoning properties adjacent to Cape St. John to maintain the low density of development on such parcels with critical areas. County Councilman Joshua Cohen's recent written statement on this subject, available at his web site, accurately captured this fact.

Since the plan was not implemented, the area now has a subdivision called Boyds Ridge that has more than 20 houses where only two existed when the plan was prepared. Boyds Ridge is not a part of the Cape St. John community.
