Aubrey Franklin Haynes, Sr., M.D., J.D., F.A.C.S., 85, of 1017 Oak Hill Ave., Hagerstown, Maryland died March 19, 2007 at Washington County Hospital. Born June 19, 1921, in Murfreesboro, Tennessee he was the son of the late Aubrey and Bertha Haynes. He attended Middle Tennessee State University and Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa., and pre-med at Johns Hopkins University; he graduated from George Washington University Medical School in 1949. He served his internship and general surgical residency at Marine Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. He was either Deputy Chief or Chief of Surgery at hospitals in Memphis, Tenn.; Norfolk, Va.; San Francisco, Calif.; Lexington, Ky.; Staten Island, N. Y.; and Fort Worth, Tex. He retired from the United States Public Health Service as a Captain 06. Following the day of his retirement he entered a plastic surgery residency under Dr. James Davis at Baroness Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga, Tenn. He was the first resident in their residency program. He arrived in Hagerstown, Md., in 1971 and became board certified in plastic surgery in 1974. Dr. Haynes started his own office operating room that was approved and certified by the American Association Accreditation of Ambulatory Plastic Surgery Facilities in 1980 (AAAPSF). At Washington County Hospital he served on the Medical Staff Executive Committee during the years of 1976, 1977 and 1978. He was president of the Washington County Medical Society from 1980-1981; and Chairman of the Credential Committee in 1982. He retired from private practice in 1986 and was an honorary staff member from 1986 to present. After retirement from private practice, he entered Northern Virgina Law School in 1989. He graduated from law school with a Juris Doctorate degree in 1994. He was a life member in the American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons; the American College of Surgeons; the Robert H. Ivy Society; the John Stage Davis Society; the North Eastern Society of Plastic Surgeons; the Lipolysis Society of North America and the Medical and Chirurgical Faculty of the State of Maryland. He served in the U. S. Army in WWII. He was a life member of the Commissioned Officers Association of the USPHS, the Retired Officers Association and the National Association of Uniformed Services. He was a member of the Morris Frock Post #42 American Legion and the BPO Elks Lodge #378. He was a president of the Delta Alpha Chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity at George Washington University in 1947-1948 and Washington Area Alumni of Pi Kappa Alpha in 1950-1951. He was, also, a present member and a member of Nu Sigma Nu Medical Fraternity. He was a loving and caring husband and father. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary Claudine Pfeiffer Haynes; two daughters, Sandra Haynes Hook (James B. Hook) of Mercersburg, Pa., and Terry Lee Haynes of Aurora, Colorado and two sons, Aubrey F. Haynes, Jr. of Nashville, Tenn., and Thomas H. Haynes of Hagerstown, Maryland; and three grandchildren, Jennifer Lauren Hook, Bethany Ann Hook and John Edwin Hook all of Mercersburg, Pa. There will be no viewing and burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers The family would appreciate donations to the American Heart Association or the National Kidney Foundation. Local arrangements have been entrusted to the Douglas A.
