PERFORMER OF THE YEAR
Jessica Tongue
Annapolis
Tongue got off to quite a start in her first season of indoor track.
The former basketball player swept the 55 meters in the county, regional and Class 3A-2A state meets. Tongue also ran on relays and combined with teammate Torrie Saunders to help Annapolis score 34 points and finish second in the state.
The junior's time of 7.14 seconds in the 55 nearly broke a state record, and helped the Panthers stay close to eventual state champion North Carroll.
COACH OF THE YEAR
Brian Brown
Annapolis
Brown and assistant coach Charles Gross converted Jessica Tongue and Torrie Saunders into sprinters, which played a major role in the Panthers finishing second in the Class 3A-2A state meet.
They also built strong relay teams around the duo, another key to Annapolis' success.
