Player of the Year
Julie Taylor
Atholton
In becoming the program's all-time leading scorer with 1,446 points, the 5-foot-6 senior guard averaged 17.3 points this season to lead the Raiders (25-3) to their first Class 2A state championship. Her ability to score, whether is came from the outside, driving to the basket or in transition, was only part of what Taylor brought to the Raiders. The team captain provided endless energy and a competitive fire that was infectious. Still undecided on a college, Taylor averaged six rebounds, 5.5 steals and 5.5 assists per game.
Coach of the Year
Maureen Shacreaw
Atholton With an experienced group returning, Shacreaw set lofty goals at the start of the season that her Raiders were able to meet, capped by the program's first Class 2A state title. Going a program-best 24-3, the Raiders claimed the Howard County championship and then worked their way out of the South region to return to the state tournament for a second straight season. After knocking off a much taller Walkersville team in the semifinals, the Raiders trailed Southern of Anne Arundel by nine points early in the fourth quarter before taking over for a 69-62 win in the state final. Shacreaw, 94-69 in seven seasons, motivated her team after losses, ran an organized trapping defense and had the Raiders playing as a unit offensively to produce a balanced effort.
