Wild times
Daniel Cabrera held the Boston Red Sox hitless through four innings yesterday, but he wasn't in total control. He allowed a run on back-to-back doubles in the fifth, and his five walks on the day were two more than he had allowed the entire spring. "He was a little erratic with his command," manager Sam Perlozzo said after a 2-1 loss in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. "What we want Daniel to do is continue to use the same effort when he's pitching, even if he's struggling a little bit, and not to sacrifice his stuff or just try to get the ball over the plate."
Power outage
The Orioles once again failed to hit a home run, leaving their spring total at seven through 19 games. Only two projected starters, Aubrey Huff and Jay Gibbons, have gone deep.
Packing them in
Yesterday's crowd of 8,661 was the third-largest at Fort Lauderdale Stadium since the Orioles began making it their spring training home 12 years ago.
On deck
The Orioles have their only day off today, and their complex is closed except to players receiving treatment. Their only night game comes tomorrow against the New York Mets in Port St. Lucie, with Jaret Wright opposing Mike Pelfrey.
