Florence Wartow, a homemaker and longtime Sinai Hospital volunteer, died Monday of complications from pneumonia at Sinai Hospital. The Pikesville resident was 89.
Born Florence Sandler in Baltimore and raised in East Baltimore, she was a 1936 Eastern High School graduate.
A Sinai Hospital volunteer for 46 years, she worked in its lobby gift shop stockroom and gave 28,000 hours of time.
Mrs. Wartow was a music lover and attended ballet performances, the Baltimore Symphony and the Baltimore Opera.
Her husband of 53 years, Mark Wartow, a dance band leader, died in 1992.
Services were held Wednesday in Pikeville.
Survivors include a son, Ronald Wartow of Owings Mills; a daughter, Francine Wartow of Owings Mills; a brother, Bernard Sandler of Sparks; three sisters, Jeannette Feldman and Edith Shulman, both of Pikesville, and Miriam Krell of Boca Raton, Fla.; two grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
