An Anne Arundel County man pleaded guilty yesterday to strangling his estranged wife with a telephone cord, less than a month after police said he attacked her in violation of a protective order.
Prosecutors will seek the 30-year maximum sentence for Aubrey Mayhew of Churchton when he is sentenced in May for the second-degree murder of Ivy Mayhew, 32.
Mayhew, 31, wept as he pleaded guilty yesterday before Circuit Judge Ronald A. Silkworth to killing his wife in her Arnold home. She had sought full custody of their two children, said Assistant State's Attorney Anastasia T. Prigge.
Defense lawyer Gill Cochran said his client "snapped," and he will explain why at the sentencing.
