Bad angle
Orioles starter Jaret Wright expects to struggle when his arm slot is too low, and it happened yesterday in a 5-1 loss to the Florida Marlins. Wright allowed three runs and five hits, and walked two, in three innings. He threw 65 pitches, which prevented him from returning for the fourth inning. "I felt OK. I was just all over the place, really," he said. "My sinker was moving too much, I left the ball up a few times. My arm slot gets a little low."
Going deep
It took until the 14th exhibition game for a projected starter in the Orioles' lineup to hit a home run. Aubrey Huff went deep in the seventh inning, putting him on a list that included only Chris Gomez, Adam Donachie, Mike Cervenak, Jon Knott and Jason Dubois.
Offensive drought
Take away the Orioles' 5-3 win over the Boston Red Sox on Sunday, and their bats have been quieter than Nick Markakis in a group media interview. They scored one run yesterday and the day before, two runs Monday and none Saturday. No wonder they've lost four of their past five games.
On deck
The Orioles travel to Fort Myers today to play the Minnesota Twins. Adam Loewen will oppose Ramon Ortiz. Left-hander Brian Burres will follow Loewen.
