Michael Ferrante writes from Catonsville after noting that BWI went more than 40 days this winter with daily lows of 32 degrees or colder. "Is this a record?" he asks. The actual total was 45 days, ending March 1. That tied with a stretch in 2004 for second place, according to National Weather Service forecaster Calvin Meadows. The record remains 47 days, ending Jan. 14, 2001. The longest unbroken period with daily highs below freezing was 19 days, ending Jan. 22, 1893.
