Bealefeld's work helped convict a man Tuesday in the killings of three men in a North Baltimore group home two years ago. Hours after the verdict, Bealefeld and other detectives were driving in East Baltimore searching for another murder suspect and found him. The man was wanted in a Feb. 21 fatal shooting.
career highlights
Bealefeld, 43, joined the department as a cadet in August 1982. He worked in patrol in the Central and Southern districts until 2000, when he became a detective and began investigating nonfatal shootings. Two years later, he joined the homicide unit.

Being a city police officer is a family affair for Bealefeld. His elder brother, Frederick H. Bealefeld III, is deputy commissioner of operations. His great-grandfather and grandfather were also members of the city force. And his grandfather's brother was a city police officer who died in the line of duty in South Baltimore in 1945.
He and his wife of 21 years, Diane, have four adult children. He graduated from Chesapeake High School in Anne Arundel County and attended community college.

"I try to give my families [of murder victims] the type of service that I would expect if someone in my family was killed or injured. I give every one of my cases 100 percent effort and try to bring some closure to them."
