Lucas says he'll decide in a month

Jai Lucas, who is ranked the No. 6 point guard in the country by Rivals.com and was offered a scholarship to play for Maryland, said yesterday that he plans to make his decision by the end of March, and that his final choices include Kentucky, Maryland, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State.

Lucas said having two talented guards already in the lineup has been a selling point for Maryland - not a drawback - as some outside the program have speculated. Lucas said the coaching staff has pitched a three-guard lineup, with him running the show and Eric Hayes and Greivis Vasquez as complementary guards.

"They say Greivis is more of a scorer and a slasher and Eric is a slide-up; he can dish the ball," said Lucas, who had a front-row seat for yesterday's game against North Carolina with his mother and father, former Terp John Lucas (1973-1976). "They say I'll be the one, the deciding factor, the true point guard to bring everything together."

Lucas, rated a four-star recruit by Rivals.com, said his trip to College Park yesterday would be his final official visit. He would not indicate any preferences.
