Severn townhouse fire displaces 10, causes $300,000 in damage

A townhouse fire in Severn displaced 10 people yesterday and heavily damaged five neighboring residences, an Anne Arundel County Fire Department spokesman said.

No one was injured in the two-alarm blaze, which burned the second-story of the home.

The cause of the 11 a.m. fire in the 8400 block of Pioneer Drive remained under investigation, but arson is not suspected, Lt. Alex Makris said. It took 65 firefighters about two hours to get the blaze under control.

Three townhouses were declared total losses. The fire caused $200,000 in structural damage and another $100,000 in damage to contents.

The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced families.
