Man held without bail on murder charges

The Baltimore Sun

An 18-year-old Baltimore man arrested on charges of first-degree murder in the stabbing death of a man last summer was ordered held without bail yesterday.

Roger Lee Burks of the 1500 block of E. Madison St. is accused of killing Irvin Conley, 24, during a fight on July 3 at a cookout in the 4300 block of Glenmore Ave.

Prosecutors said that Burks, who was 17 at the time, became unruly at the cookout and that Conley was stabbed several times when he tried to break up a fight. Prosecutors said that police found Burks later with cuts on his right hand and took him to a hospital. At the time, prosecutors said, Burks denied being at the cookout.

Evidence later showed that Burks had Conley's DNA on his clothing, prosecutors said. Burks was arrested and charged Wednesday with first-degree murder and several counts of assault and use of a deadly weapon.
