State of county is strong, Ulman says

Howard County is getting a new corporate headquarters in Columbia's Gateway Office Park, and a better computer system for registering children for summer recreational programs.

Those two very different announcements represent County Executive Ken Ulman's macro vs. micro appeal in his first State of the County speech yesterday to about 300 people at a Chamber of Commerce luncheon at Turf Valley.

Moving Merkle, a database marketing firm, is planning to make Columbia home. pg D1
