Sessions set on alternative diploma
Carroll County Public Schools offer the External Diploma Program, a self-paced alternative to the GED test.
Information sessions on the program will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m. Wednesday at Student Support Services/Carroll Adult Learning Connection, 55 N. Court St., Suite G27, Westminster. Registration is requested.

School board to meet Wednesday
The Carroll County Board of Education will meet at 5 p.m. Wednesday in Room 007 of the board offices, 125 N. Court St., Westminster.
Meetings will be broadcast live on CETV, Channel 21 on Adelphia cable TV and repeated at 8 p.m. Thursday, Sunday and the following Thursday, and 9 a.m. Saturday.

North Carroll High holds open house
North Carroll High School will hold an information meeting for parents of eighth-grade students who will be attending North Carroll in 2007-2008 at 7 p.m. Thursday in the auditorium at 1400 Panther Drive, Hampstead.
Parents and students will receive assistance in scheduling their courses for the ninth grade.

High school students invited to tour CCC
Carroll Community College will hold a President's Day Open House for high school students and their parents from 8:30 a.m. to noon Feb. 19 in the Scott Center Theater at 1601 Washington Road, Westminster.

Schools recognized for performance
Twelve Carroll County elementary schools and two middle schools have been recognized based on the results of the 2006 Maryland School Performance Program.
The schools were recognized for achievement on the 2006 Maryland School Assessment and for improvement among subgroups from the 2005 MSA to the 2006 MSA.
Schools recognized for overall achievement were: Carrolltowne, Eldersburg, Freedom, Mechanicsville, Piney Ridge and Spring Garden elementary schools; and Oklahoma Road and Sykesville middle schools.
Schools recognized for subgroup improvement were: Carrolltowne, Elmer A. Wolfe, Freedom, Friendship Valley, Hampstead, Taneytown, Westminster and William Winchester elementary schools.
Taneytown and William Winchester elementary schools are also each receiving a Title I Award of $2,745.82.
