Sheriff plans town meeting
Harford County Sheriff Jesse Bane will hold a town hall meeting at 9 a.m. Saturday at Edgewood Senior Center, 1000 Gateway Drive.
The meeting will include discussion of crime, updates on current investigations, staffing and budget.
Residents can ask questions, receive sheriff's department contact information and learn about the agency's operations.
Residents reminded of child-seat safety
This week, in observance of National Child Passenger Safety Week, The Harford County Health Department is urging parents to make sure their children's safety seats are installed correctly.
There are four levels of safety restraints for children:
Infants to age 1 and at least 20 pounds: infant seat or convertible seat.
Toddlers older than 1 year and more than 20 pounds: car seat.
Boosters for 4 years old and at least 40 pounds.
Safety belts for larger children.

Bel Air to open new visitors center
A visitors center is opening at the Bel Air Reckord Armory, 37 N. Main St.
A kickoff event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday will officially open the new center, in conjunction with the start of the town's public awareness campaign for its downtown Streetscape project.
The center will provide resources and hospitality for tourists and residents. Information on activities, events, shopping, lodging, restaurants, local and regional attractions, as well as a display of local merchant goods and gift shop items will be available.
The event will feature an appearance by "Bob the Builder," a slideshow of Bel Air attractions, and a display of vintage photos and paintings of Main Street, courtesy of the Harford Artists Association.
Representatives from the State Highway Administration will answer questions about the Streetscape program. Popcorn, refreshments and free pizza will be available.
Bel Air is anticipating that tourism, visitor and relocation traffic will increase in the next several years because of the new county Office of Tourism, the federal base realignment and closure process, and the formation of the Center for the Visual and Performing Arts.
Tourism brings in approximately $221 million per year in Harford County.
Bel Air is seeking individuals to volunteer to help staff the center during the week. Hours are flexible. Interested individuals can call the Planning Department at 410-638-4540.
Holocaust talk set at John Carroll
John Carroll School will present World War II veteran Sol Goldstein and 14 Holocaust survivors at an assembly at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the school, 703 E. Churchville Road, Bel Air.
Goldstein will discuss his experience as a concentration camp liberator, and the survivors will discuss their experiences.

New Vision women's conference planned
Harford Community College will hold a conference, New Visions for Women, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Saturday at Edgewood Hall on the Bel Air campus.
Workshops will be offered in cooking, glass painting, self-defense and yoga.
