Display to promote smiles for children

The Anne Arundel County Department of Health will mark Children's Dental Health Month with an informational display at the Glen Burnie mall's Summer Activity Expo from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday in the Center Court.

The display will feature tips and information to help children have healthy smiles. Department staff and Bugsy the puppet will demonstrate good brushing techniques. Children will receive a free toothbrush.

Safety checks offered for child car seats

In observance of National Child Passenger Safety Week, the Anne Arundel County Department of Health will offer free child safety seat checks from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the following dates:

Tomorrow -- Brooklyn Park Health Center, 300 Hammonds Lane, Brooklyn Park.

Tuesday and Feb. 20 -- Parole Health Center, 1950 Drew St., Annapolis.

Appointments are required.

Motor vehicle crashes are one of the leading causes of injuries among young children in Anne Arundel County. A properly installed child car seat can help reduce motor vehicle injuries and fatalities. Parents should check the car manual and safety seat manufacturer manual for installation instructions.

People can hear stories on hospice

Hospice of the Chesapeake provides speakers who share the story of hospice with the community.

Topics can range from a general overview of hospice to an in-depth look at palliative care. Special-interest subjects include advance care planning, grief education, spirituality at the end of life and volunteer opportunities.

Styles vary from informal discussions with small groups to formal conference presentations. Hospice of the Chesapeake also provides presentations for continuing educational units for professionals. Speakers address consumers during business events, civic, social, community or religious organization meetings and at professional in-services.

Flu vaccine offered at 3 health centers

The Anne Arundel County Department of Health will provide flu vaccines, including shots and FluMist nasal vaccine, to residents on the following dates:

Today -- 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., and Monday from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Parole Health Center, 1950 Drew St., Annapolis. 410-222-7247.
