The Wilde Lake Community Association is seeking candidates for five seats on the village board and one seat on the Columbia Council, also known as the Columbia Association board of directors.
The positions are for one year, beginning May 1. The nomination period runs from Feb. 20 through March 7.

Fundraiser to help Juanita Robinson
Friends of Juanita Robinson, a resident of Harper's Choice who has served on the village board for eight years and is a recipient of the Howard County Volunteer of the Year award, is planning a fundraiser in her honor from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday at Kahler Hall in the Harper's Choice Village Center.
Silent and live auctions, a 50/50 raffle and food are planned.
Robinson, a community advocate who has also worked on behalf of the homeless and was a member of the Harper's Choice Community Partnership, has been diagnosed with a recurrence of breast cancer.
A minimum donation of $10 is requested. Proceeds will help pay for Robinson's medical expenses.

Laughter workout -- Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks is sponsoring "Another Way to See It," a laughter club for those ages 55 and older. The program includes laughter exercises. Play games -- Slayton House on Wilde Lake Village Green offers drop-in bridge games Tuesdays, Scrabble on Wednesdays and a chance to bring a game to play Thursdays. The free sessions are held from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. the second and fourth weeks of each month. Drop-in mah-jongg for ages 18 and older is offered at Slayton House on Wednesday mornings. Bridge -- Ruth-Anne Mazer, American Contract Bridge League certified director and Gold Life Master, will teach bridge for beginners from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Tuesdays, through Feb. 27, at the Bain Center. The cost is $46. "Bid and Play," a class in bidding, play and defense techniques will be offered from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays, through Feb. 13, at the Bain Center. Local music -- Oakland Nights Music Series, sponsored by the Town Center Community Association, will present a performance by singer Samantha Hammer Kadrmas and pianist Kirk Kadish from 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Friday in the ballroom at Historic Oakland, 5430 Vantage Point Road. Volunteers needed -- Slayton House will celebrate its 40th birthday this summer with a party sponsored by Wilde Lake Community Association.
